Test Crosses are a Go
After killing all of the adults left over from break, newly hatched virgins were collected this afternoon and arranged into crosses. Unfortunately, a large number of virgins were not extracted from their original cultures due engorgement by slime mold and overdoses of Fly Nap. However, two crosses of a medium size were set up; there were not enough hatching for other crosses, so virgins of the leftover phenotype were moved to a separate culture and will be crossed within the next day. Currently, there is are crosses of Wild Type Females with Vestigal males, and Wild Type males with Vestigal Females. Tomorrow White Eyed Females will be crossed with males of the other two phenotypes, along with other needed combinations.

Post-Break
After a week away from the flies due to Winter Break, the following observations were noted on the six cultures of flies:
- All six adult cultures (two of each phenotype) had a large amount of live adults. Half of these will be killed off so that virgins can be crossed, the other half will be left to continue to reproduce in case the new cross cultures die out and extra adults are needed.
- Aside from the adults, each culture also had a good number of flies close to hatching latched onto the sides of the cultures. They are expected to hatch within the next day or so, and will be sexed and divided into cultures.
- The crosses that we had previously attempted to start had completely died out; those cultures were cleaned and discarded.
